The Sons of Battery© story

I got my e-bike in September 2019 after I had been browsing the internet weeks before to collect information about which e-bike was right for me. It was a KTM Macina Mighty and I was hooked from the first minute!

I was infected... I started telling everyone about it, me, the overweight office stud running around in the forest! Daily! I was really annoying everyone... :D By December, I had scrubbed 1500 kilometers...

After a tour we drank... Too much, as is usual, we talked stupidly, clothes... nothing fits, etc. And then, out of nowhere, I had this idea to design a few shirts for us nice guys... Then it came to me my lips, “Sons of Battery” instead of Sons of Anarchy (My favorite series) - we bawled, the next day I got to work and created the logo, went to an online platform, uploaded the design and ordered us 4x 4/5XL shirts ... In the evening I looked at the shirt portal because I had been getting emails all day, I thought it was spam, and saw that I had sold around 50 shirts. 

At first I didn't understand anything and thought it was a bug, but the next day, another 20 went over the counter... I have no idea where it all came from, but of course, I'll take it with me, haha!! I would never have guessed where the journey would lead...
 

I was contacted asking whether there were stickers for the bike... on Facebook, just out of nowhere... So I went to my colleague who happens to have a small printing shop, actually a drawing supply store, but a little bit of records and copying is always possible :D I gave him my logo and we made a handful of stickers.

In the evening I created a Facebook fan page (at my age, people are still on Facebook) to be able to better accept inquiries. But it became more and more.

Since I do everything I do correctly, I created a shop overnight so that it would be easier for the supporters and I wouldn't have any stress with the tax office...
 

At the end of 2019 / beginning of 2020 (officially on January 1st, 2020) I finally realized what I had triggered and went full throttle, this date is also the start of Sons of Battery, or rather I then understood what was happening here!

I created a group, an Instagram, page and a YouTube channel
From then on it went very quickly... everything was filled with supporters, everyone was asking for stickers, clothes, etc... For me as a creative, a great playground! I tried to solve problems that others don't care about, at the forefront: I don't want to leave the heavyweights among us out in the cold! Clothes are needed, neat, shape-stable ones! Especially in the e-bike segment, we are rather unsporty at the start and that's not a problem, but we also want to have cool jerseys...

Through Sons of Battery I was able to suddenly tell so many people how awesome the E-MTB / E-Bike / Pedelec is, how fit it can make you, how much freedom it gives you again... just great, but the best thing was the people Don't be pissed, they wanted to hear that! :D

I wanted to ride with people from the area... but nowhere could I find an organized way to find people from my area. So I did that myself, I created “THE CHAPTERS” a Discord community with an orderly system in the background, you come in, say where you come from and are sent straight to your state. There you only have drivers from your area and a lot of people met there and drive together today, awesome!

At some point the first jerseys arrived, together with Träl Bikewear I found a partner who could supply me with jerseys up to 6XL. They came and sold out quickly, so the demand was there and again there were so many people who were happy.

In mid-2020 I made Sons of Battery© a brand and secured my baby, better safe than sorry! 

More foils, more colors, our own machines and more and more supporters... Sons of Battery© started our Sons of Battery - E-MTB live streams together with Bastian T. (old schoolers know his backside :D), I just wanted to give something back, in whatever form whatever.

Then came a magical moment, sometime in September? 2020... Chapter Pforzheim and I went to Stromberg... to the flow trail. I saw my own logo driving around there until someone recognized me... we exchanged ideas and all took photos together... I realized that Sons of Battery© is not just a community that takes place online, but also moves people outside! An incredible moment for me… that gave me a lot of energy!

In addition to family and main job, then there's Sons of Battery©...okay, a lot, but what does it have to do! 

I was generating more and more attention, was given a bike and couldn't believe it! A fully... my first... oh man, what a moment!

The year went by, Sons of Battery© continued to grow, but my head was in jeopardy...

At the end of 2020 I had to make a decision to save my head... to be honest it just became extremely busy, because of Corona the kids were at home all the time, I was on short-time work and my wife went to work... orders had to be processed, short-time work had to be done I managed everything at home... although I was doing wonderfully, with my own brand, I collapsed... The first time I noticed that at some point I too couldn't do it anymore... I put on the brakes a little to keep my head focused somehow to hold... but I knew I would have to make a decision... It won't last long. 

I tried to concentrate on Sons of Battery© and through a few impulses, we opened the Sisters of Battery group, administered and moderated by great sisters. A girls only group.

I was doing great... but I worked a lot, the day of the decision was approaching, I was already self-employed back then, I was always able to cope with it, but my family almost fell apart because of it, should I take this step? The risk with 2 kids? ... I quit in May 2021 and decided on Sons of Battery©, even if you don't get rich with it, it fulfills me and makes me happy, we'll manage it! - Nevertheless, I just changed jobs, it should be a little quieter so that I have more time for SoB. Not with a crowbar, I think... and as long as I have a good feeling, it's okay. The new job also fulfills me in a similar way because I can simply be a graphic designer.

I had to hand in my first fully and it went on to the next one almost seamlessly! My current Enduro E-MTB Orbea WILD FS M team. A great bike that suits me very well! (The one before that was also great, but with me, the bike was underwhelmed; D)

Now it's July 2021 - Sons of Battery© now has 5 groups on Facebook, a Facebook fan page , an Instagram fan page , a YouTube channel, Twitch.tv , Discord and we're even on TikTok :D A big playground... but what the heck The most beautiful thing is that I can make people smile, everyone has to grin when they hear the name and the context :D

In total we are about 20,000 people across Europe! Sons of Battery© reaches just over half a million people in the E-MTB Facebook group alone!

Even now I still do everything alone, although, that's not true, in the huge E-MTB Facebook group I have 4 of the best admins I could imagine helping me! By the way, from the beginning. My philosophy of group leadership is not easy; as many people say, I am far too fond of the internet... and yet we enjoy a wonderful, harmonious reputation. The community is responsible for this, and they now simply regulate themselves and that's just awesome. I still believe in the good in people and so far I've only rarely been disappointed! 

I'm trying to continue to support you, to link your videos with my reach, to help you advance on YouTube or elsewhere, it was a dream come true for me, maybe I can help you with yours, no matter where!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all! No matter whether with or without stickers / merchandise... you make this project a family, you fill it with life, you consciously or unconsciously help people who, like us back then, are faced with the decision to invest so much money in a bicycle. All I can say is: do it! If you can, don't go into debt, but if you can, get an e-bike, get back to nature and enjoy the peace, absorb the strength that the forest gives you and be proud of your 80km tours... Don't let anyone talk you into anything, no matter how old you are! Nobody can object to having fun.”

With that in mind, I'll drive the boat further across the sea and see where we can dock! I am proud of you and also of our little boat!

Wow, it's 2023, in total we are now 70,000 members and growing insanely every week! There are SoB meetings every weekend all over Germany, our sticker travels all over Europe, we have created great partnerships that benefit everyone, and even our stickers have a material added value in addition to the community... So it's worth branding even more be! Craziness!

In May 2022 I founded SoB Media GmbH out of my media agency in order to be better positioned for the future. Rolf Seyfried from Roxxtech is my business partner who supports me infinitely with his know-how! a year later in May 2023 I hired my first employee because the volume of orders could no longer be controlled on my own... and that's how it works to this day! Finally even regulated and with a tick more free time!
